FunkeyOne is an active, fan-made restoration project that makes U.B. Funkeys playable again for modern audiences. The project revives the online Arkone world, preserves the original game experience, supports physical Funkeys and the MegaByte Hub, and provides several ways to play. FunkeyOne is free, community-run, and open to both returning players and newcomers.

FunkeyOne is not affiliated with or endorsed by Mattel, Radica Games, THQ, or any other original rights holder.

Overview
FunkeyOne is a community revival of the original U.B. Funkeys computer game and its discontinued online services. Its goal is to preserve as much of the original experience as possible while making the game convenient to access on present-day computers.

Players can explore Terrapinia, use Funkeys to unlock characters and areas, play the original games, decorate and save their progress, and take part in restored online features. The project includes a downloadable edition for Windows, support for Linux, and a browser edition that can be played directly from the FunkeyOne website.

The project grew from many years of community preservation, modding, server research, hardware research, archived material, and earlier revival projects. FunkeyOne brings that work together as a maintained experience for the wider community.

Funkeys and the MegaByte Hub
FunkeyOne supports the original MegaByte Hub and physical U.B. Funkeys figures. A companion Hub installer is available for Windows, and Hub support is also available for the browser edition on compatible systems.

Players who do not have every physical figure can also use community Funkey-selection options where available. The project continues to preserve knowledge about the original toys and their interaction with the game.

Community resources
The wider FunkeyOne project also maintains community services and preservation resources, including:

* A Discord community with player information, activities, trivia, and server updates.
* A marketplace tracker intended to help collectors follow U.B. Funkeys listings and price history.
* Restoration and world-editing tools used to preserve and repair game content.
* Archived promotional material and U.B. Funkeys commercials presented through the project website.

History
FunkeyOne is the continuation of a long-running community effort rather than the work of a single period or program. Early fans created tools for reading the game's data, selecting Funkeys without the complete toy collection, modifying levels, preserving sprites, and documenting the original hardware. Later projects investigated the discontinued online services, developed replacement servers, improved the player client, and restored communication between the MegaByte Hub and the game.

The modern FunkeyOne project builds on OpenFK, A1Emu, the community U.B. Funkeys server work, FSGUI, and other preservation efforts. In 2026, the project was brought together under the FunkeyOne name with a maintained client, restored online service, website, browser edition, Windows and Linux distribution, Hub support, and additional community services.

Credits
FunkeyOne is built on years of work and knowledge shared throughout the U.B. Funkeys community.

Current FunkeyOne project
* ImaEternal — Lead development of the FunkeyOne client, restored Arkone service, website, game restoration work, Hub compatibility, and related project tools.
* Moritz — Ubuntu and Debian installer port, bringing the downloadable FunkeyOne experience and Hub support to Linux.
* Jlynx — Browser communication with the original MegaByte Hub.
* Community contributors — Legacy hardware logs, research, testing, archived assets, code contributions, preservation material, and ongoing feedback.

Early community preservation and modding
* Daleth — Created an early RDF tool that became an important foundation for later work.
* Traitor — Created the Funkeys Selection Mod.
* dualscar — Proposed the graphical Funkey-selection idea and preserved a collection of Funkey sprites that inspired later tools.
* popdoo323 — Early level modding and custom-world work, including memorable changes to Funkeystown.

OpenFK, server, and later restoration work
* Lako — Foundational OpenFK and A1Emu work and an important part of the project's core history.
* GittyMac — Credited by the original OpenFK repository license.
* Lauthai — Credited by the original community U.B. Funkeys server repository for beginning its server restoration work.
* Leahnaya — Credited by the current project for early U.B. Funkeys server work.
* Wynaut — Created an installation guide that made the game more accessible.
* KnowYourKnot — Developed the In-Between server and helped identify how the original Arkone service operated.
* NanderTGA — Major FSGUI improvements and OpenFK development.
* Arctic — Hub-to-game research and improvements that helped replace earlier workarounds.
* blu — Server documentation and OpenFK fixes.
* Bawoosette — Research into the original U.B. Hub and cross-platform support.

The original OpenFK acknowledgements also credit Lachee, James Newton-King, Lako, and We Need Coffee for work incorporated into or used by that project.
Perhaps the greatest mystery of U.B. Funkeys. What it does, even the mayor is unsure!
Description
The button is a large orange button located in Laputta Station and Nightmare Rift. Upon hovering over it, the game will indicate "That's a big button! Wonder what it does?" or "Another big button!?! Wonder what this one does?". Upon pressing, it plays a sound effect and displays "Hmmm... How Odd!?!"

The button also makes an appearance in the game More Buttons?

Lore
Apparently on one of the main websites for the game, there was even some lore around the button. Will update once found.

What does the button do?
Ah yes, the great mystery. What does the button do? Some say nothing, some say something. Mayor Sayso (Character) himself seems unsure of its purpose! Perhaps its purpose is to forever be a mystery, and it connects all Funkeys in generating stories and theories as to what purpose it serves.

But what does it really do?
Well if that answer above wasn't satisfying, this next one will likely not be either. Its purpose is unknown/not being disclosed. Many speculate nothing, but Jeff has indicated he wishes to keep it a mystery, so its unlikely its true purpose will ever surface.
