FunkeySelectorGUI is a user-friendly program created by User:Lako to change funkeys in-game through the use of other mods.
It is now maintained by User:NanderTGA(U.K. Funkeys) as a fork on the OpenFunk organization on Codeberg, where it is publicly developed and accepting contributions.
The original project was archived along with OpenFK on January 4th, 2026 by User:Lako because he retired from the modding scene. As such, no further updates can be released unless users manually update to a fork, like the OpenFunk one.
Workings
FunkeySelectorGUI changes the funkey in the game through the use of other mods, usually through OpenFK's customF.txt implementation.
customF.txt
The most commonly used method is writing to the customF.txt file, located in the RadicaGame directory.
To change funkeys, write to the file in this format: funkeyCodeNum=00000034 (you need to replace 00000034 with the ID of the funkey you want to change to).
This was first implemented by the Funkeys Selection mod, which is a Main.swf modification, that replaces an older method of changing funkeys by modifying a value in memory using Cheat Engine.
To check customF.txt, the mod uses the LoadVars API in flash, therefore working without relying on the game executable.
It however requires the user to click the close button on the game window to trigger a funkey change.
(This could probably be improved by using setInterval() instead to periodically check for changes.)
FunkeySelectorGUI automatically clicks close for you when it detects the Funkeys Selection mod, so the user only has to click No on the popup that asks them whether they want to quit the game.
Nowadays it is not really used anymore as it has been superseded by OpenFK, which implements the same behavior without a Main.swf mod and doesn't require pressing close to trigger a funkey change. OpenFK however does not support Windows XP.
Posing as MegaByte.exe
FunkeySelectorGUI (as of v3.1.0) can also pose as MegaByte.exe by communicating with the game executable in the same way as the original MegaByte.exe does. A user can take advantage of this by either having OpenFK (v3+) launch it, or by fooling the original game executable into launching it by replacing MegaByte.exe with a copy of FunkeySelectorGUI. The latter method works on Windows XP too.
Running on Windows XP
FunkeySelectorGUI can be nice to have for users, but it has multiple requirements:
- Windows XP Service Pack 3 or higher (update through Legacy Update; required by .NET Framework v4.0)
- Windows Imaging Component (download and run the installer (installer links: 64-bit version 32-bit version); required by .NET Framework v4.0)
- .NET Framework v4.0 (download and run the installer)
Detailed and user-friendly instructions are available in this guide: Guide:How to use FunkeySelectorGUI on Windows XP.
