FunkeyOne is an active, fan-made restoration project that makes U.B. Funkeys playable again for modern audiences. The project revives the online Arkone world, preserves the original game experience, supports physical Funkeys and the MegaByte Hub, and provides several ways to play. FunkeyOne is free, community-run, and open to both returning players and newcomers.

Overview

FunkeyOne is a community revival of the original U.B. Funkeys computer game and its discontinued online services. Its goal is to preserve as much of the original experience as possible while making the game convenient to access on present-day computers.

Players can explore Terrapinia, use Funkeys to unlock characters and areas, play the original games, decorate and save their progress, and take part in restored online features. The project includes a downloadable edition for Windows, support for Linux, and a browser edition that can be played directly from the FunkeyOne website.

The project grew from many years of community preservation, modding, server research, hardware research, archived material, and earlier revival projects. FunkeyOne brings that work together as a maintained experience for the wider community.

Funkeys and the MegaByte Hub

FunkeyOne supports the original MegaByte Hub and physical U.B. Funkeys figures. A companion Hub installer is available for Windows, and Hub support is also available for the browser edition on compatible systems.

Players who do not have every physical figure can also use community Funkey-selection options where available. The project continues to preserve knowledge about the original toys and their interaction with the game.

Community resources

The wider FunkeyOne project also maintains community services and preservation resources, including:

  • A Discord community with player information, activities, trivia, and server updates.
  • A marketplace tracker intended to help collectors follow U.B. Funkeys listings and price history.
  • Restoration and world-editing tools used to preserve and repair game content.
  • Archived promotional material and U.B. Funkeys commercials presented through the project website.

History

FunkeyOne is the continuation of a long-running community effort rather than the work of a single period or program. Early fans created tools for reading the game's data, selecting Funkeys without the complete toy collection, modifying levels, preserving sprites, and documenting the original hardware. Later projects investigated the discontinued online services, developed replacement servers, improved the player client, and restored communication between the MegaByte Hub and the game.

The modern FunkeyOne project builds on OpenFK, A1Emu, the community U.B. Funkeys server work, FSGUI, and other preservation efforts. In 2026, the project was brought together under the FunkeyOne name with a maintained client, restored online service, website, browser edition, Windows and Linux distribution, Hub support, and additional community services.
