Dr. Tinker and [[Mayor Sayso (Character)|Mayor Sayso]] grew up as brothers in [[Paradox Green]]. Where Sayso was born with a penchant for leading and speeches, Tinker gravitated to the sciences, becoming the chief Funkey engineer, and accomplishing a number of great successes (as well as embarrassing failures). While some of his creations, like the [[Sprocket]], the [[Maul]], and Oasic (a failed eyedrop that dried out the eyes of all [[Tank]]) would fail to achieve what he had hoped, Tinker's claim to fame came in the creation of the Portal system. Combining the workforce of Funkeys united by the Great Funkey Wars, notably the [[Xener]], and powering the contraptions with crystal Gems, the incredible new form of transportation was a success, and Funkeys were free to warp between various stations across the planet at will. Tinker was, even then, unhappy with making Portals only to places that exist, and, when positing why there weren't Portals to places that ''didn't'' exist, constructed a Dream Machine to bring to life [[Daydream Oasis]], a new landscape forged of the good dreams of all Funkeys.
